Setting the goal to provide public with the information about ecological dangers for the Black Sea waters and the coastline, group of partners has initiated a non-commercial project «Space monitoring of oil pollution of the Black Sea». The main idea of the project is continuous monitoring of the Black Sea waters using satellite images.
More details about our partners can be found here.
The goal of the project is to develop an interactive map of the Black Sea where results of the satellite images analysis are presented by e.g. vector layers of possible oil pollutions. The probabilities of certain pollutions are estimated by experts on the basis of the complex analysis of satellite images and other relevant factors such as weather, shipping routes etc.
The data on oil pollution of the Black Sea are updated as soon as new satellite images arrive (but at least once a week). In the future, we plan to update the information every day using images made from different satellites, which will allow us not only to visualize oil spills but also to observe the dynamics of oil films spreading.
