Monitoring of ground surface deformations on the Black Sea coast is a very important part in investigating geo-ecological problems of the region. Anthropogenic activity in this area, including intensive building and oil production, has a very big influence on the geo-ecological situation. At the moment there exists a probability of dangerous geological processes such as landslides, relief deformations etc.
It is important to realize that ground deformations on the Black Sea coast exist and their consequences can be dangerous for both the inhabitants of the coast and the buildings. However, at the moment monitoring of ground deformations in the whole region with millimeter precision is only possible using radar data ENVISAT and ERS with spatial resolution of 25 meters, which are provided by European Space Agency.
In order to provide public with real information about geological dangers in the region group of partners has initiated a non-commercial project «Monitoring of ground deformations on the Black Sea coast». It is planned to monitor the deformations using regularly provided satellite images.
