According to «Expert» rating agency, in 2006 Krasnodar Territory, a Russian region situated on the Black Sea coast, was rated as very investment attractive with the rating grade 1B ( high potential – moderate risk), jumping three steps up from the grade 2B (moderate potential – moderate risk) given at 1998 – 2005. This is explained by the rapid growth of tourist industry on the Black Sea coast and increasing production of gas and oil. At the moment, intensive construction on the Black Sea coast (reconstruction of the Gelengik central part, development of tourist infrastructure in Sochi) is attracting large investments both from Russia and abroad.
The election of Sochi as the host city for the Winter Olympic Games in 2014 made Krasnodar Territory the leader among the Russian regions in investments from government and business organizations. For example, during the 6th International Investment Forum in Sochi in September 2007 a number of investment agreements were signed with total amount of 22 billion dollars, including investing of more then 800 million dollars in construction of sports facilities. On the same forum the Territory Department for Fuel and Energy Complex announced its plans to double the production of oil and triple the production of gas in the nearest future.
The constant development of infrastructure in Krasnodar Territory needs adequate ecological policy in the region. This is why «Geomarketing Research Center» has initiated the non-commercial project «Monitoring of ground deformations on the Black Sea coast». The project is meant to illustrate the geological consequences of the intensive anthropogenic influence in the region, to inform investors about the actual ecological situation on the Black Sea coast and also to stimulate oil and building companies to follow production norms and regulations.
